As you may see from the title the exciting thing is that I passed my driving test.
Now I will admit this is not my first attempt at taking it and I learnt a lot along the way (apart from the obvious which is how to drive) so I thought I would share some tips on dealing with anxiety when it comes to driving and as I tried both a driving course and weekly lessons I'll also compare the two for anyone who is trying to decide which root to go.
Driving course: I thought that this would be a quick and easy way to pass and even though it did kick start my learning quite a bit in the end it was too much too quick and I ended up failing at the end of it because I just wasn't confident enough.
Weekly lessons: This was what really helped me build my confidence. I decided to go with a new instructor who had previously worked for the company I did the course with but was now independent and I found having a new perspective really helped me.
Tips:
1. Don't over analyse driving. If you over analyse it you'll constantly be worried about all the things that could go wrong.
2. Try to be confident and not panic if something does go wrong if you panic it will just ruin your concentration for your whole lesson.
3. If you can go out with people who aren't your instructor so that when you take the test your not phased by having someone new their with you.
4. Don't worry if you don't pass first time its not the end of the world and it may be expensive but you can do it again!
Honestly there all the things that helped me and in the end on the day of my test I could of messed up more because I was so nervous but my examiner was lovely and really eased my nerves by just talking to me normally so instead of constantly thinking what was going to go wrong I concentrated on driving and talking to her.
I hope some of this helps.
