Room Inspiration: Top 5 tips for using space!

For those of you that live at home you’ll know that only having one room to hold all your stuff can be challenging. So over the years I’ve come up with some tricks I thought I would share.

  1. Look for furniture with storage space or that is multi purpose. I have a headboard from Ikea that has shelves in the sides so you don’t need bedside tables. Also things like drawers under the bed can be good storage ideas.
  2. If you can’t find furniture to fit in a space, make it (or in my case get your dad to help you make it!). I have a small space at the bottom of my bed that I wanted a shelf/storage piece to fit in but couldn’t find anything so my dad and bf helped me make something using chipboard and table legs that we brought from ikea.
  3. Use shelves! Shelves are a great way to store pretty things and can be layered on a wall meaning you don’t need more furniture using up space.
  4. Build your own wardrobe. In my case my dad made my wardrobe when I was younger so I already had tons of storage space in my wardrobe before I needed it but ikea do great build your own wardrobes so you can have space for the stuff you need rather than a readymade wardrobe where your stuff has to fit in what you’re given.
  5. Last but not least: regularly declutter your room. I try and clear out stuff that I don’t use or need any more at least twice a year, once in spring and once just before Christmas. It’s a great way to make sure you stay clutter free and if you decided not to throw something away the first time and still don’t use it then it’s a sure sign it should go the second time!
